About medication, honestly
A psychologist can diagnose ADHD. A psychologist cannot prescribe. That is the single most important thing to understand before you book anywhere, because it decides how many appointments you end up paying for.
Who can start you on medication depends on the state you live in, not on where your clinician sits:

| Queensland | A specialist GP can initiate for adults, since December 2025. We can handle this within the group. |
| New South Wales | GPs with continuation status can maintain existing scripts. A trained group of GPs who can initiate is being rolled out; until that is live, a psychiatrist. |
| Victoria | A GP generally needs a specialist diagnosis on file first, so in practice a psychiatrist. |
| Everywhere else | A psychiatrist or paediatrician. |
Rules here change often. We will confirm what applies to you at intake rather than leaving you to find out afterwards.
We do not prescribe on request. Medication is one option among several, it suits some people and not others, and that is a clinical decision made by the doctor who sees you.
Questions
Is a psychologist's ADHD diagnosis enough?
For understanding yourself, for workplace or university adjustments, yes. For medication, a prescriber has to be satisfied in their own right, which usually means one further appointment. We build that into the plan instead of pretending it does not exist.
Can I get a Medicare rebate?
Not on a psychologist-led assessment for an adult. The psychiatrist option attracts $467.45 back on item 291, and under-25s have further rebated sessions available. See pricing.
Does ADHD get me onto the NDIS?
On its own, no. ADHD is not on either NDIS access list. It can still form part of a picture where something else meets the criteria, but do not book an assessment expecting it to open that door.
