ADHD assessment, Brisbane
We are a Brisbane business assessing people across Queensland by video. $1,650 including the report. Queensland now has one of the shorter routes from diagnosis to prescription in the country, and that changes what this actually costs you.

Queensland changed the rule that matters most
Every state controls who may start an adult on ADHD stimulant medication, and that single rule decides how many appointments stand between an assessment and a settled prescription. Queensland's answer is now one of the more open in the country.
Queensland Health's published position is that from 1 December 2025, all specialist GPs are able to initiate, modify and continue psychostimulants for adults with ADHD, within existing maximum dose limits. Psychiatrists and paediatricians can do so as they always have.
What that means in practice for a Brisbane adult:
Before
Assessment, then a psychiatrist to initiate medication — with the wait and the fee that comes with adult psychiatry in Queensland.
Now
Assessment, then a specialist GP who can initiate. For a lot of people that removes an expensive appointment and months of waiting from the path.
We will tell you at intake which route realistically applies to you rather than assuming the most convenient one. A rule permitting something and a specific doctor having appointments are different questions.
Queensland is one of the cheaper states to do this in now
Not because assessment costs less here — it does not. Because the step after it usually does.
In a state where initiation still runs through adult psychiatry, the true cost of getting medicated is the assessment plus a psychiatrist appointment plus the wait for one. Queensland has taken that middle term and, for a lot of people, replaced it with a GP appointment. The assessment fee is identical; the total is not.
That is worth saying plainly because it cuts against our own interests in one direction: if all you want is the diagnosis, none of it applies and the $1,650 is simply the whole cost.
The Queensland-specific things worth raising at intake
The assessment itself is the same wherever you live. These are the four things we ask Queenslanders specifically, because they change the plan.
- Whether you already have a specialist GP. If your regular GP has the credential, the shortest version of this pathway is already available to you and we should be writing the report with that doctor in mind.
- Where in the state you are. The rule is uniform across Queensland; the supply of doctors is not. Far North and Central Queensland are harder, and we would rather find that out at intake than at the end.
- Whether you were assessed as a child. Queensland has a lot of adults carrying a paediatric diagnosis and nothing current. Often the old report can be built on rather than repeated.
- What the report has to do. A report for a Queensland university's disability service, one for an employer and one for an NDIS access request are not the same document. We ask first rather than last.

Autism assessment in Brisbane
We assess adult autism on the same basis — $1,650, by video, against DSM-5-TR criteria, with a report that shows its working. None of the prescribing machinery above applies, because there is no medication that treats autism.
What matters for autism is what the report has to achieve. An NDIS access request, a Queensland university's disability service and an employer all want different things, and a report written for one is not automatically fit for another. We ask which it is before we start rather than after.
If both autism and ADHD are plausible, assess them together. $1,950 rather than $3,300, one developmental history instead of two, and no risk of the first clinician reading one condition's traits as evidence against the other.
Outside Brisbane
Queensland is decentralised in a way that matters here. The adult ADHD and autism workforce is concentrated in the south-east corner, so for someone in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa or Rockhampton the realistic alternative to video has often been no appointment rather than an in-person one.
We assess from anywhere in the state on the same terms and at the same fee. The one thing worth flagging early is the prescriber question — specialist GP availability is not uniform across Queensland, and we would rather check that at intake than have you find out afterwards.

Can I get an ADHD assessment in Brisbane by video?
Yes, and that is how we do all of them. An adult ADHD assessment is built on developmental history, standardised rating scales and a long structured interview — none of which requires you to be in a room. You are assessed from home, anywhere in Queensland.
Who can prescribe ADHD medication in Queensland?

Do I need a GP referral?
Not for the psychologist-led assessment. You need one only if you want the Medicare rebate attached to the psychiatrist-led option.
How much does an ADHD assessment cost in Brisbane?
$1,650 with us, including the written report. Both conditions together is $1,950 rather than $3,300. There is no Medicare item for an adult psychologist-led ADHD assessment anywhere in Australia, so that fee is out of pocket — the cost page explains the two situations where Medicare does contribute.

Can I get assessed through the public system in Queensland?
Adult ADHD is poorly served by the public system nationally and Queensland is no exception. Public adult mental health services are configured around acute and severe mental illness rather than developmental assessment. Most Queensland adults who get assessed pay privately. We would rather say that than imply a free option exists and let you find out.
